Compound Prompt

A compound prompt is a multi-part or layered instruction given to an AI model, typically in the context of Generative AI. Unlike an Atomic Prompt, it combines multiple elements, questions, or directives within a single input to guide the LLM in producing more specific, nuanced, or complex outputs. Compound prompts often include context, constraints, examples, and multiple related tasks, allowing users to obtain more precise and tailored results from the AI system.

This technique is particularly useful for enhancing the quality and relevance of AI-generated content, improving problem-solving capabilities, and achieving more sophisticated interactions with AI models in various applications.

Some simple compound prompts:

  • "Write a short story about a dragon who learns to fly, and include a moral lesson at the end."
  • "Translate 'Good morning' to French and then list three traditional French breakfast items."
  • "Describe the benefits of regular exercise, then provide a weekly exercise plan for beginners."

These prompts are comprehensive and require the model to perform multiple tasks and combine different pieces of information to generate a useful response.
